The Atchafalaya, is a river basin system in southern Louisiana, and is sacred to me. The the images contained in the sculpture are based on views of the basin. Flying over it we see the lacy system of water and land, floating on it we see aquatic plants waving just below the surface, and contemplating the water from on shore we see refections on the surface. The parts are assembled to evoke a monstrance, a receptacle in a Catholic church to display the consecrated host for veneration.
